Experia Group asked us to build a promotions engine for an Italian textile group with dozens of stores specialising in knitwear. The marketing and commercial teams needed campaign rules and schedules beyond those supported by the existing store system. We added a promotions layer that the teams could configure themselves.
Campaign requirements
The retailer runs seasonal campaigns and time-limited offers for particular products and periods. Its store system supported standard promotions, but the teams needed to combine more conditions and control campaign timing more precisely.
The existing store system
The new engine had to support combinations of conditions, changes between periods and specific activation windows. Business teams needed to manage these rules directly while continuing to use the existing store system.
Implementation
Previous work with Experia. We had already delivered an in-store promotions architecture for another Experia client. We reused the architectural patterns and implementation experience from that project.
A separate promotions layer. We built an engine above the store system to handle the additional campaign logic. The existing system remained responsible for its usual store operations.
Campaign configuration. The marketing and commercial teams can combine conditions and schedule campaigns for specific windows and periods. They manage these rules in the new layer, beyond the promotion types supported by the underlying system.
Local checkout evaluation. Configured promotions are pushed to the stores and evaluated inside the point-of-sale software. Each register applies the campaign’s activation and expiry times locally, without making a central request while a customer is checking out.
Results
- The engine runs across dozens of knitwear stores and supports promotion logic beyond the store system’s built-in rules.
- Business teams can configure time-based campaigns, combining conditions and setting specific activation windows.
- Promotions are distributed to stores and evaluated at the till, where each register applies the configured timing rules.
- Marketing and commercial teams control the campaign rules through the dedicated promotions layer.
- Previous work with Experia shortened delivery by providing an architecture already used in a comparable store environment.
